The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced the recovery of a staggering N70,556,658,370.5 within a span of 100 days, from October 2023 to January 19, 2024.
According to the ‘Operations and Recoveries’ document obtained, the EFCC detailed the breakdown of the recovery, including N60,969,047,634.25, $10,522,778.57, £150,002.10, and €4,119.90.
Notably, the anti-graft commission received 3,325 petitions, accepted 2,657, and achieved convictions for 747 individuals involved in financial crime offences, ranging from money laundering to internet fraud.
Key highlights of the recovery include the EFCC headquarters securing N49,607,391,330.44, $3,900,200.75, £2000, and £110. The Maiduguri Zonal Command recovered N58,065,870 and $3,370, with other commands like Gombe, Kano, Makurdi, Enugu, Uyo, Port Harcourt, Sokoto, Kaduna, Ilorin, Abuja, Ibadan, Lagos, and Benin contributing significantly.
Chairman of the EFCC, Ola Okukoyede, revealed at a dialogue in Abuja that out of the 747 convictions, a majority were related to cybercrime offences.
Okukoyede also launched the Fraud Risk Assessment Project for Ministries, Departments, and Agencies during the event, emphasizing the EFCC’s commitment to combating corruption.
This significant stride in recovery and conviction rates showcases the EFCC’s relentless efforts in curbing financial crimes and maintaining transparency.
