In a shocking turn of events, the Lagos State Police Command has apprehended four individuals for orchestrating a fake kidnapping and demanding a hefty ransom of five million Naira.
The suspects, identified as Margret Itodo (25), Agnes Ogbeh (23), Esther Anyanwu (24), and Anthony Chinakwe (24), were implicated in the elaborate scheme.
The incident unfolded when Agnes Ogbeh, hailing from Akure, purportedly went missing while visiting Lagos on March 19, 2024. Concerned family members received a distressing video showing Agnes and another individual bound, gagged, and appearing injured, accompanied by demands for ransom.
Promptly responding to the complaint, diligent detectives initiated a thorough investigation. Their efforts led them to a hideout where Agnes, the other individual from the video, and two additional accomplices were discovered living freely.
Further scrutiny uncovered Margaret Itodo’s involvement as a professional makeup artist hired to fabricate the realistic appearance of the video.
All four suspects have confessed to their roles in the deception and are slated to face legal proceedings upon the conclusion of the investigation.
Commissioner of Police for the Lagos State Command, CP Adegoke Fayoade, mni, commended the detectives for their swift actions and urged the public to remain vigilant, encouraging the reporting of any suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the
