Police detectives in Akure have apprehended five suspected kidnappers who fell asleep after consuming hard drugs following the abduction of a pastor’s wife and two other individuals. The victims managed to escape while their captors were unconscious.
The arrested suspects are identified as Garuba Mumuni (27), Kabiru Muhammed (16), Shaibu Umar, Yusuf Tale (21) and Adamu Mohammed (22). According to police sources, the suspects were captured by officers from the Ofosu Division after one of the victims recognized them.
The incident was reported to the Ofosu Division, indicating that a pastor’s wife, a church member, and another individual were kidnapped. However, the victims were able to flee from their captors on separate occasions when the kidnappers fell asleep due to drug consumption.
Acting on intelligence, the police arrested five of the six kidnappers on May 1, 2024. These individuals were positively identified by the victims as part of the gang responsible for their abduction.
State Police Commissioner Abayomi Oladipo confirmed the arrests and stated that the suspects would soon face charges in court. Additionally, another individual, Adetokunbo Adesina, was apprehended after being accused of planning to kill over 500 people. Adesina was arrested following payment of N110,000 by his last intended victim.
The swift action by the police underscores their commitment to combating crime and ensuring the safety of residents in Akure and its environs.
