Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is set to unveil the Lagos transport policy on Tuesday, aimed at driving development goals, transportation objectives, and strategic initiatives in traffic management and transportation.
According to Commissioner for Transport, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the policy document is long overdue for a state like Lagos, known as the commercial hub of the nation. Once fully implemented, it is expected to catalyze economic growth, enhance quality of life, and improve overall transportation planning, design, and accessibility.
The journey to create the Transport Policy began in 2017 under former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, with a team of experts working alongside the Ministry and LAMATA to develop a policy fitting for a mega and smart city. After five years, the document has been finalized, accommodating the state’s multi-modal strides, including the delivery of metro rail cars, modern water buses, and a robust bus reform.
The unveiling ceremony will be attended by stakeholders, policy advocates, and industry experts, who will share insights into the policy aimed at sanitizing the sector and ensuring a more efficient and sustainable transport infrastructure for residents.
Additionally, Governor Sanwo-Olu will launch 15 new boats at the Badore Ferry Terminal, Ajah, on Wednesday, increasing the government’s fleet to about 20. The ferries will be deployed in all 11 dredged channels, making water transportation safer and more secure for riverine residents.
