President Tinubu signs old National Anthem Bill into law

President Bola Tinubu has signed into law a bill to reinstate Nigeria’s old national anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee.” The announcement was made by Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Wednesday during a joint session of the Senate and House of Representatives.

In his address to the lawmakers, President Tinubu mentioned that he would soon introduce the 2024 Supplementary Bill. The visit was primarily to commission the new National Assembly Library.

Senate President Akpabio clarified that President Tinubu’s visit was brief, intended mainly to greet the lawmakers. Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, issued an apology for the earlier miscommunication regarding the President’s visit, attributing it to a mistake by the National Assembly.

Abbas explained that the President has postponed any detailed speeches until June 12, Democracy Day. On that day, President Tinubu is expected to officially launch the recitation of the newly reinstated national anthem after giving it formal assent. Following this ceremony, he will proceed with other important engagements.
