Abuja – President Bola Tinubu has officially named the full-scope Arterial road N20, stretching from Northern Parkway to the Outer Northern Expressway (also known as the Murtala Mohammed Expressway), as Wole Soyinka Way. The announcement was made during the road’s inauguration in Abuja on Tuesday, June 4.
In his speech, President Tinubu praised the 89-year-old Nobel laureate and playwright, Wole Soyinka, for bringing international recognition to Nigeria. He also expressed gratitude to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, for the recommendation.
“The recommendation (by Wike) to name this road after Wole Soyinka is greatly appreciated. He is a distinguished playwright, novelist, and Nobel Prize winner who has brought pride and international recognition to Nigeria. We accept this recommendation on behalf of the people and the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” stated President Tinubu.
The president also commended Minister Wike, noting that he has proven his critics wrong with his contributions.
According to The Nation, the inauguration of Wole Soyinka Way is the fifth project President Tinubu has launched to commemorate his administration’s first year in office. Other projects include the renaming of the Southern Parkway to Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way, the inauguration of the Abuja Rail Mass Transit (Metro Rail), and the Outer Southern Parkway, now known as Mahamadou Issoufou Way, among others.
