A 12-year-ld boy, Keaton Slater, has died from fatal injuries sustained in a in a hit-and-run crash in on Radford Road, Coventry at about 16:30 BST on Friday.
21-year-old Dolars Aleksanders is suspected to have driven the car that hit the boy. He fled the scene afterwards.
Aleksanders drove a BMW model car, that has now been seized, hitting the boy and causing fatal injuries.
Before Dolars Aleksanders was identified, he had fled the scene. Officers appealed for witnesses and dashcam footage from the scene as they work to trace the suspects. He was traced and arrested later on.
“We would appeal to the driver or for any of the passengers who were in the vehicle to do the right thing and to contact us,” said Sgt Rich Evans from West Midlands Police.
“A 12-year-old boy has tragically lost his life and we need you to come forward and hand yourselves in.”
In a tribute released by the force, Keaton’s family said he was “so beautiful inside and out,” and “our fun-loving little comedian” who “just wanted to make everyone laugh and smile”.
Sgt Evans said officers were supporting the family.
