Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has made significant strides in the education sector, just weeks into his administration. The governor has approved the payment of fees for Abia students studying at the SRI SAI university in India, who were previously abandoned by the previous administration.
According to the State Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, the governor is committed to revitalizing the education sector and has taken several steps to achieve this goal. In addition to paying the fees of the Indian-bound students, Otti has also approved the payment of bursaries to Abia students studying law in various institutions across Nigeria.
The commissioner also announced that the governor has secured accreditation for 19 courses at the Abia State University, Uturu, a move that will enhance the institution’s reputation and provide more opportunities for students.
Furthermore, Otti has approved the establishment of a football academy by Abia-born UK-based footballer, Mr. Frank Onyeka, who plays for the Super Eagles and Brentford football club in the English Premier League. The academy is expected to be located between Umuahia and Aba and will be supported by the Vice Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election, Dr. Datti Baba-Ahmed.
Otti’s administration has also seen a change in its media team, with Mr. Kazie Uko being replaced as Chief Press Secretary by Mr. Ukoha Njoku. According to Kanu, this change is part of Otti’s plan to revamp his media team and bring in fresh ideas and perspectives.
The governor’s efforts to support education and development have been praised by many stakeholders, who see him as a leader committed to making a positive impact on the state. With these developments, it is clear that Otti is committed to delivering on his campaign promises and making Abia State a better place for its citizens.
