The Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) has uncovered a shocking 3,000 cases of fake graduates who never attended university.
The board’s Registrar, Prof Ishaq Oloyede, revealed this in a report, expressing frustration over illegal admissions by some institutions, which he described as a national embarrassment.
According to Oloyede, these “graduates” never set foot in a university due to corruption in the system. JAMB has been working to combat illegal admissions, a long-standing issue in Nigeria’s education sector.
The House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education recently ordered JAMB to provide a list of tertiary institutions involved in irregular and illegal admissions.
JAMB has warned candidates against accepting admissions from such institutions without proper academic participation.
The board reiterated that all admissions to first-degree programs must be processed through JAMB to ensure legitimacy and academic integrity. This move aims to tackle the endemic corruption and fraud in Nigeria’s education system.
