President Bola Tinubu has invited labour leaders to a meeting at the Aso Villa on Thursday to discuss the long-standing issue of minimum wage.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have been negotiating with the government for months, demanding a higher minimum wage to compensate for the rising cost of living in the country.

The labour unions are demanding a minimum wage of N250,000, while the government has offered N62,000. The private sector and state governments have expressed concerns about their ability to pay the proposed wage.

The meeting on Thursday aims to settle the lingering talks on minimum wage, with the President hoping to finalize a new national minimum wage. The outcome of the meeting remains uncertain, as it is unclear how much the President will propose in the new negotiations.

The negotiations come after a nationwide strike by labour unions earlier this week, which disrupted power supply and flights, and highlighted the need for a resolution to the minimum wage issue.
