Former Senate President, Anyim Pius Anyim, has joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The announcement was made at the Pa Oruta Ngele Township in Abakaliki during the Grand Finale of the APC Local Government election campaign on Saturday.
Anyim was accompanied by a host of notable personalities from other political parties, including former State and National Assembly members, former Governorship candidate of Labour Party, Edwin Nkwegu, Senator Obinna Ọgba, and thousands of their supporters.
The defectors were received by the APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, Chairman of Progressive Governors Forum, Governor Hope Uzodinma, Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State, Minister of Works, David Umahi, and State Chairman of the party, Stanley Meghan, among other top shots.
Minister of Works, David Umahi, commended Anyim for his support during the 2023 elections and thanked President Bola Tinubu for his support during his legal battles after joining the party.
Umahi noted that President Tinubu is committed to the development of the southeast and needs the support of the people to succeed. He highlighted ongoing projects, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road, which will pass through Ebonyi.
Umahi urged party leaders to work together to bring all stakeholders in the region into the party, while Anyim assured the National Chairman that Ebonyi State is united under one political family, with plans to collapse the whole state into one political family in support of Governor Francis Nwifuru’s efforts.
Pius Anyim vied for the presidency in the last election cycle as a PDP aspirant, ultimately losing the party ticket to Atiku Abubakar.
