PSquare Saga: Paul Okoye Declares No More Performances with Twin Brother Mr P

Paul Okoye Declares No More Performances with Twin Brother Mr P
Paul Okoye, known by his stage name Rudeboy, recently declared he would not perform with his twin brother, Peter Okoye (Mr. P) anymore.

This announcement comes amidst renewed tensions between the brothers, who formed the popular Nigerian music duo PSquare. In a recent interview with Lagos City FM, Paul revealed that they had parted ways again due to ongoing personal and professional disagreements.

The duo initially disbanded in 2017 due to conflicts involving their older brother, Jude Okoye, who managed the group. After years of public feuding, they reconciled in 2021, delighting fans with a reunion tour and joint performances. However, the reunion was short-lived.

Paul explained that a key issue in their relationship was Peter’s sensitivity to being perceived as merely the “dancer” in PSquare, while Paul was seen as the “singer.” Paul mentioned that Peter struggled with an inferiority complex regarding his role, which led to tension. Despite efforts to resolve these feelings, Paul indicated that they could not overcome these issues, which contributed to their latest split.

“I was being accused of saying that he [Peter] was the dancer and I’m the singer. I know whenever we go to the airport, people ask are you a singer or a dancer? I didn’t know it was touching him. But I know there was a time we came together and said, ‘don’t allow this thing get to you, you should be proud of what you’re doing. That’s the role you’re playing.

The new PSquare was peaceful. I needed the past mistakes not to repeat themselves. But then again he [Peter] said he’s no more doing [no longer interested]. In fact, he told me in the face that he wants to quit. I asked if we could make it public and he refused. But what will happen when I go solo? People will call me the bad person. That’s why I’m speaking up now.”

In addition to these interpersonal challenges, Paul accused Peter of calling the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on him, which added to their strained relationship. In his recent comments, Paul encouraged fans to support whichever brother they prefer, indicating that both will continue their solo careers. He remains focused on his music as Rudeboy and emphasizes that he is not interested in rekindling the professional partnership with his brother.
