Police Kill 13 Protesters in Kano State Violence

In Kano State, security forces have reportedly killed 13 protesters, including women and children, during a violent crackdown on protesters. The violence erupted on Saturday in several areas, including Rijiyar Lemo, Kurna to Bachirawa, Fagge Local Government, Kofar Nassarawa, and Unguwa Uku in Tarauni Local Government.

The violence erupted on Saturday in several areas, including Rijiyar Lemo, Kurna to Bachirawa, Fagge Local Government, Kofar Nassarawa, and Unguwa Uku in Tarauni Local Government.

According to eyewitnesses and footage obtained by REPORT AFRIQUE, the unrest began when armed security operatives confronted peaceful protesters carrying out their constitutional rights. The security forces used teargas, leading to a clash between the protesters and police, which escalated into violence. The video footage showed police officers violently assaulting the demonstrators.

A source confirmed to REPORT AFRIQUE that 13 people have been killed and many others injured in the incident. The violence followed the Kano State government’s imposition of a 24-hour curfew after the nationwide #EndbadGovernance protests turned violent.

Additionally, REPORT AFRIQUE reported the vandalism of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) Industrial Park in Kano by individuals posing as protesters. The looted facility contained 150 new computers and laptops. Photos showed the thieves carrying away stolen items, including furniture and electronics.

In response to the unrest, President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to address the nation on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at 7:00 am. The broadcast will be available on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), with additional airings at 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm the same day.
