U.S.A- ABC News has announced it will host the first debate between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris on September 10.
The confirmation follows Trump’s declaration that he is open to multiple debates with Harris before the November election.
“We think we should do three debates,” Trump suggested at a recent news conference, proposing additional debates hosted by Fox News and NBC.
Harris, while attending an event in Detroit, expressed her eagerness for the upcoming debate. “I am looking forward to debating Donald Trump, and we have a date of September 10,” she said.
This debate will take place after Trump’s earlier face-off with President Joe Biden in June, which led to Biden’s withdrawal from the race following a lackluster performance.
Trump had initially pushed for a debate on Fox News in Pennsylvania, moderated by Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum, but Harris’ campaign had maintained a preference for the ABC-hosted event.
The former president also floated the idea of additional debates on September 4 (Fox News) and September 25 (NBC), although these have yet to be confirmed by the Harris campaign.
In addition, Trump revealed that CBS would host a vice-presidential debate between Republican JD Vance and Democrat Tim Walz.
Trump didn’t hold back his criticism of Harris during the news conference, labeling her as “barely competent” and questioning her ability to conduct a news conference.
Meanwhile, Harris focused on labor unions and middle-class support during her Michigan event, emphasizing Americans’ “freedoms.” Despite Trump’s criticisms, polls indicate that Harris is gaining ground in key battleground states, keeping the race tight as the debate approaches.
