Ferris wheel catches fire at music festival in Germany
At least 23 people were injured when a fire broke out on a Ferris wheel during the Highfield Festival near Leipzig, Germany, on Saturday night.
The blaze, which started in one gondola before spreading to a second, left four people with burn injuries and one person injured from a fall, according to police reports. Several others, including first responders and four police officers, were taken to the hospital for potential smoke inhalation.
The Ferris wheel operator confirmed that no passengers were in the gondola where the fire began. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the incident.
As of Sunday morning, the condition of those injured remains unclear. The exact number of casualties has yet to be confirmed.
