The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero, has declined an invitation from the Nigeria Police Force, citing prior commitments and the need for clarification on the charges against him.
Ajaero was summoned to appear before the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) at the Guzape District, Abuja, on August 20, 2024.
The invitation came under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, IRT, and involved serious allegations, including criminal conspiracy, terrorism financing, treasonable felony, subversion, and cybercrime.
However, in a letter addressed to the Inspector General of Police by Ajaero’s legal representatives, Falana and Falana Chambers, the Labour leader stated his inability to honor the invitation on the scheduled date. The letter explained that the invitation was received only a day before the proposed date, and Ajaero had prior engagements that could not be rescheduled.
Ajaero, through his lawyers, expressed his willingness to appear for the interview on Wednesday, August 29, 2024. The letter also requested detailed information regarding the nature of the allegations leveled against him, in accordance with Section 36 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).
The NLC President is now awaiting a response from the police, as he prepares for the rescheduled interview.
