Nasarawa State, Nigeria – The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested a woman, identified as Hauwa Sani, for allegedly attempting to smuggle 124 rounds of anti-aircraft ammunition concealed in a gallon of palm oil.
The arrest occurred on Friday, August 23, 2024, in Keffi, Nasarawa State.
According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, Ramhan Nansel, the suspect, who was in the company of a two-year-old child, was apprehended with a sum of N78,500 and a mobile phone. She was reportedly en route to Katsina State, where she hails from.
In a statement released on Saturday via X.com, Nansel detailed that the arrest followed credible intelligence received by the police. The ammunition was hidden in a gallon of palm oil to evade detection.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect received the supply of ammunition in Rafin Sanyi village, Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, and was transporting it to Katsina State when she was intercepted,” the statement read.
The Commissioner of Police, Shehu Nadada, has ordered that the suspect and the recovered items be transferred to the Force Intelligence Department at the Force Headquarters in Abuja for further investigation.
