Edo Election: Police Arrest Two Political Thugs, Recover Firearms

Edo State, Nigeria – The Nigeria Police Force has arrested two political thugs during an overnight raid at various locations in Edo State, ahead of the state’s governorship election.

This was disclosed in a press statement on Saturday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

According to the statement, the police recovered three cut-to-size locally fabricated pistols and one locally made gun from the suspects during the operation. The arrested individuals were identified as 43-year-old Edwin Obanor and 41-year-old Audu Tajudeen, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Ugbogbo quarters, Igara Akoko, Edo.

The police acted on a tip-off regarding plans by some individuals to instigate violence during the election. Obanor, described as the leader of an armed group, was apprehended around 9 PM at Oredo Ward 4, while Tajudeen was arrested in Igara Akoko on the eve of the election.

Firearms recovered from the thugs

“Upon searching their bags, police operatives recovered three cut-to-size locally fabricated pistols from Obanor, while one locally made gun was found on Tajudeen,” Adejobi stated.

The arrests are part of the Nigeria Police Force’s ongoing efforts to prevent electoral violence and ensure a peaceful voting process in the Edo State.

“The police and other security agencies will not tolerate any form of violence or disorderliness during the election in Edo State,” the statement emphasized.

The suspects are currently in police custody and will face legal prosecution. The public has been urged to report any suspicious activities to nearby police stations or through the police’s helplines, as the force remains committed to protecting lives and maintaining order.
