Kebbi State Governor conveyed his condolences to the family of the deceased through his Chief Press Secretary.

Kebbi, Nigeria – A fisherman, Malam Usman Mai Gadi, was tragically killed by a hippopotamus on Sunday at the Yauri River in Yauri Local Government Area, Kebbi State.

According to local witnesses, the attack occurred while the deceased was fishing at the riverbank. The hippopotamus, believed to have recently given birth, may have perceived the fisherman as a threat to her newborn, leading to the fatal encounter.

Before his death, Malam Usman worked as a watchman at the Emir of Yauri’s Orchard Farms, supplementing his income through fishing.

In a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Idris, Governor Nasir Idris expressed his condolences to the family of the late Malam Usman, the Emir of Yauri, and the entire community over the tragic incident. The governor also prayed for the repose of the deceased’s soul.

Malam Usman was laid to rest according to Islamic rites.
