Maiduguri, Nigeria – In response to the recent devastating floods in Maiduguri, Borno State, and following President Bola Tinubu’s appeal to the private sector for assistance, BUA Group, one of Africa’s leading conglomerates, has donated N2 billion to aid victims and support recovery efforts in the state.

The donation, made on Monday, includes N1 billion in cash and another N1 billion in essential food supplies aimed at alleviating the suffering of displaced persons and communities affected by the floods.

This was announced during the company’s visit to Maiduguri, where food items were delivered alongside the cash donation.

Speaking on behalf of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu, Chairman of the company and founder of ASR Africa, expressed the organization’s commitment to supporting Nigerians during difficult times.

“The recent flooding in Maiduguri has caused untold hardship for thousands of families,” Rabiu said. “At BUA, we believe it is our responsibility, as an organisation deeply rooted in the fabric of Nigerian society, to act swiftly and meaningfully in providing relief to those affected.”

The N1 billion worth of food items includes essential commodities such as flour, pasta, sugar, and rice. These supplies will be distributed to the areas hardest hit by the flooding to provide immediate relief to affected communities.

Rabiu also noted that a N1 billion cash donation was presented to the Borno State government, handed over to Governor Babagana Zulum, to ensure that aid reaches those in need as quickly as possible.

Through its philanthropic arm, the Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa), BUA Group has pledged to continue monitoring the situation and provide further resources as necessary to help the people of Maiduguri recover and rebuild.

“Our thoughts are with the families and individuals who have been affected by this disaster,” Rabiu added. “As we continue to extend our support, we urge other corporate organisations and well-meaning individuals to join us in this effort to restore hope and rebuild lives.”
