Kebbi, Nigeria — Bako Bala, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Suru Local Government Area of Kebbi State, has been shot dead by unidentified gunmen.
The tragic incident was announced by Zaidu Bala, the Special Adviser on Television and Radio to Governor Nasir Idris, in a post on Facebook. According to Bala, the APC chairman was attacked on Tuesday but succumbed to his injuries at the hospital on Wednesday.
“To Allah we belong and to Him we shall return. Alhaji Bako, APC chairman of Suru Local Government, has passed away. He died after being shot by kidnappers who abducted him and his family last night. He passed away today at the Medical Centre hospital in Birnin Kebbi. May Allah have mercy on him,” the statement read.
Efforts to reach Nafiu Abubakar, the spokesperson for the Kebbi State Police Command, for comments were unsuccessful as calls and text messages went unanswered.
The attack has raised concerns about the security situation in Kebbi State and the safety of public officials.
