Four Bloggers Re-Arraigned on New Charges of Cyberstalking of GTCO CEO in Lagos
Lagos State, Nigeria – On Monday, four bloggers—Precious Eze, Olawale Rotimi, Rowland Olonishuwa, and Seun Odunlami—were re-arraigned in the Federal High Court in Lagos on new charges related to alleged cyberstalking and the dissemination of false information targeting Guaranty Trust Holding Company (GTCO).
The bloggers are confronting a total of ten charges, which include conspiracy, cyberstalking, false and misleading publications, extortion, making threats, and causing losses in shares and market value, as brought forward by the police.
Previously, on September 27, 2024, they faced two counts concerning cyberstalking and false statements aimed at insulting Segun Agbaje, the CEO of GTCO. Following the reading of the new charges, Justice Ayokunle Faji ordered that the defendants be held at the Correctional Centre.
The recent allegations assert that the defendants willfully spread false and misleading information across various social media platforms about GTCO, its leadership, the Central Bank of Nigeria, and the broader Nigerian banking system, with the apparent aim of inciting public disorder. The prosecution argued that these allegations were intended to tarnish GTCO’s reputation and were leveraged as a means of extorting the company.
Further details are expected to be released as the case progresses.
