Gov Diri Approves N80,000 Minimum Wage for Bayelsa State Workers

Governor Diri expressed gratitude to the workers and their representatives for their patience, understanding, and ongoing support for the administration’s initiatives.

Yenagoa, Nigeria — Governor Douye Diri has approved an N80,000 minimum wage for civil service workers in Bayelsa State, marking a significant boost for employees amid rising living costs.

This wage adjustment, set to commence on November 1, 2024, is part of the governor’s broader plan to ease economic challenges faced by residents.

In addition to the wage increase, Governor Diri has announced an enhancement in monthly pensions for retired state employees, alongside a substantial allocation of N7 billion aimed at reducing the state’s outstanding gratuity liabilities.

A statement released by Daniel Alabrah, the governor’s spokesperson, emphasized that these decisions align with the recently updated National Minimum Wage (Amendment Act 2024) and reflect the commitment of the Prosperity Administration to addressing financial pressures on workers.

“To address the harsh times and in line with the National Minimum Wage (Amendment Act 2024), the Prosperity Administration of His Excellency Senator Douye Diri has approved the sum of N80,000 as minimum wage for the state’s workers,” Alabrah noted.

The statement also highlighted that the wage adjustment will include “consequential adjustments for various sectors,” agreed upon in consultation with state labor leaders.
