In a significant move, the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has suspended Pastor Ayorinde AdeBello and Deacon Oke Mayowa following allegations of homosexual misconduct with young members of the church. An internal memo dated October 28, 2024, with reference number RCCG/NO/s.04/13/vol.1 and titled “Investigation and Suspension Regarding Allegations of Homosexuality,” confirms the church’s directive to temporarily remove the accused from their roles. The memo, signed by RCCG National Overseer Pastor Sunday Akande, reaffirms RCCG’s zero-tolerance stance on homosexuality, citing biblical teachings that forbid such acts.

“This memo serves to inform you of serious allegations of homosexuality against Pastor Ayorinde Ade Bello and Dcn. Oke Mayowa. In accordance with our mission’s commitment to upholding the teachings of the Bible, we must address these allegations with the utmost seriousness,” the memo reads, referencing verses such as Leviticus 18:22 and 1 Corinthians 6:9-10.

The memo instructs church officials to handle the investigation with confidentiality, care, and respect for all parties involved. Pastor Akande emphasized that the investigation must align with RCCG’s values and maintain integrity throughout the process.

In a separate letter of removal, dated October 25 and obtained by SaharaReporters, the RCCG formally suspended Pastor Ayorinde AdeBello from his responsibilities within the RCCG Pastors Seed Family (PSF). The letter, signed by Laolu Oroge, Secretary of the RCCG PSF Global Council, highlighted the potential criminal implications of the allegations and advised Pastor AdeBello to step down from all roles in the church.

The letter stated:

“We write to inform you of your immediate suspension from any responsibilities within the RCCG Pastors Seed Family. This decision comes in light of the serious allegations that have materialised about your inappropriate conduct with teenage boys.”

Allegations of Predatory Behavior Spark Outcry

The allegations against AdeBello reportedly involve inappropriate communications in a WhatsApp group with teenage boys, where he allegedly encouraged unethical and improper discourse. The RCCG stated that any behavior undermining the church’s core values of holiness, accountability, and protection of vulnerable individuals is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

The RCCG insisted on a comprehensive and impartial investigation, warning that if the allegations are substantiated, AdeBello and Mayowa could face indefinite removal from all church offices. In the meantime, they are advised to refrain from any actions that might compromise the investigation’s integrity.

The RCCG underscored the gravity of these accusations, urging the suspended leaders to cooperate fully with the investigation and to remain accountable to both church and legal standards.

“We Are Committed to Uncovering the Truth”

In a closing statement, the RCCG assured its commitment to uncovering the truth, urging all parties to respect the investigative process. The church warned that if proven guilty, the accused could face both church discipline and legal penalties.

For questions or clarification, the RCCG advised the suspended leaders to contact the appropriate authorities within the Pastors Seed Family, emphasizing the need for compliance and integrity during this period.
