Ibadan, Nigeria – Ten people lost their lives in the early hours of Thursday when a two-story building collapsed in the Jegede area of Olunloyo, Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.
Rescue efforts, which began shortly after the incident, managed to save seven individuals who were pulled from the rubble with varying degrees of injuries. They have since been taken to nearby medical facilities for treatment.
The Oyo State Fire Service responded swiftly to a distress call received at approximately 2 a.m. from local residents, alerting them to the collapse. Yemi Akinyinka, General Manager of the Fire Service, confirmed the tragic incident. “We received a distress call around 2 a.m. regarding a collapsed building at Jegede in Olunloyo. So far, ten bodies have been recovered, while seven people have been rescued alive,” he stated, adding that rescue operations are ongoing.
