Port Harcourt, Nigeria – The Rivers State Police Command has refuted recent reports alleging a violent confrontation at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

Speculation on social media suggested a clash involving military personnel purportedly loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the current Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara.

The reports also alleged that Governor Fubara had declared a curfew and authorized security interventions by militant groups.

In an official statement issued on Sunday, Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mustapha Mohammed, dismissed these claims as “unfounded” and “fabricated,” attributing them to attempts to stir fear and unrest in the state. The statement, signed by police spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko, emphasized that no violent incidents had taken place at Government House and that the reports were “false and a figment of the author’s imagination.”

“There have been no armed confrontations or casualties involving military personnel in Rivers State,” the statement confirmed. “Furthermore, Governor Fubara has neither imposed a curfew nor sought security intervention from any militant groups within the state.”

The police urged the public to disregard the misinformation, warning of the dangers posed by spreading baseless reports that could disrupt the peace. “This false narrative serves no purpose other than to disturb the peace and tranquillity in the state,” the statement read, advising residents to verify information from credible sources and avoid sharing unverified and sensational claims.

Reassuring the public, the police confirmed that law enforcement agencies maintain full control over security in Rivers State, with officers on the ground vigilantly working to uphold peace. The Commissioner of Police also encouraged residents to go about their daily activities without fear, as security agencies remain committed to ensuring the safety of all citizens in the state.
