Nigeria recorded 86 new cases of the novel coronavirus with 70 cases recorded in the country’s commercial hub of Lagos on Sunday.
This was made known by an update on the verified Twitter account of the Nigeria centre for Disease control (NCDC).
According to the tweet, Lagos state had 70 new cases, Abuja had 7 new cases, Akwa Ibom and Katsina states had 3 each while JIgawa, Bauchi and Borno states had 1 case each, making it a total of 86 new cases in the country.
The total recorded cases in Nigeria now stands at 627 cases, 170 discharged patients and 21 deaths.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has said the deadly coronavirus pandemic will spread to all the 36 states in Nigeria.
The Director-General of the agency, Chikwe Ihekweazu, said this while speaking on Channels Television Sunrise Daily programme on Thursday.
Speaking on Thursday, Mr Ihekweazu said the Covid -19 virus will spread to all states as he compared the virus to Lassa Fever.
“We have responded to Lassa smoothly and nobody shut down the country because it wasn’t necessary, the response was fairly efficient.
“Now, COVID-19 is on a much larger scale – at the moment in 22 states but it will grow to every state in Nigeria, there is no reason why it won’t – it is a respiratory virus.” He said
