Finnish Police Arrests Simon Ekpa Allege He Incited Violence in Nigeria Through Social Media, Terrorism Financing and Public Incitement
Prominent pro-Biafra agitator, Simon Ekpa, and four others have been arrested by Finnish authorities over terrorism-related offenses tied to violent activities in Nigeria. Ekpa, who identifies as the “Prime Minister” of the self-proclaimed Biafra Republic Government in Exile, was remanded in custody by the Päijät-Häme District Court.
The Finnish Central Criminal Police confirmed Ekpa’s detention on charges of public incitement to commit a crime with terrorist intent. Four other individuals were arrested on suspicion of financing terrorism-related crimes.
A statement from the Finnish police revealed:
“The detention demands are related to the preliminary investigation, in which a Finnish citizen of Nigerian background, born in the 1980s, is suspected of public incitement to commit a crime with terrorist intent.”
Authorities allege that Ekpa used his social media platforms to incite violence against civilians and government officials in Southeastern Nigeria. According to Crime Commissioner Otto Hiltunen, the suspect’s actions have directly contributed to crimes in the region.
This development highlights international law enforcement cooperation against the growing threat of terrorism and its funding networks. Further investigations are underway.
