The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the killing of the seven farmers.
Niger State – Tragedy struck in Bangi, Mariga Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger State, as suspected bandits ambushed and killed seven farmers, including a vigilante.
The attackers also set ablaze a truck containing 50 bags of maize, which the victims had harvested from their farm.
According to eyewitnesses, the bandits had been hiding in wait for the farmers, who were loading the harvested maize into the truck. After killing the victims, the bandits set the truck and the maize ablaze.
This incident is the latest in a series of attacks on farmers in Mariga LGA, which has made it difficult for them to harvest their crops this year. The area has been plagued by killings and kidnappings by bandits.
In a related development, terrorists have killed a resident of Kontagora, Mallam Danjuma, after collecting a N20 million ransom from his family. Danjuma was reportedly killed after spending three weeks in captivity.
The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the killing of the seven farmers. The command’s spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, stated that a joint security operation has been launched to forestall further attacks and ensure a peaceful farming harvest season.
