Abuja, Nigeria -President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has affirmed that the ongoing tax reforms under his administration will remain in place, despite facing significant resistance.
Speaking during a presidential media chat aired on NTA on Monday night, Tinubu underscored the importance of the reforms, describing them as necessary and beneficial for the country.
“The tax reform is here to stay. It is pro-poor and aims to broaden the tax base, allowing more people to contribute,” the President said. He emphasized that decisive leadership requires implementing changes that may not always be popular but are essential.
The tax reform bills, currently before the National Assembly, have sparked debates and encountered strong opposition, particularly from leaders in the northern region. In response to the resistance, lawmakers have initiated consultations to address concerns raised by various stakeholders.
