Lagos, Nigeria – A yet-to-be-identified man was killed, and three others sustained injuries in multiple accidents that occurred around Otedola Bridge, Lagos.
The incidents were confirmed by Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), on Tuesday.
According to Oke-Osanyintolu, the accidents occurred during an operation to recover a fallen 40-foot container in the area. Two of the injured victims were rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
“In an overnight operation, while the safe recovery of a fallen 40-foot container for onward transmission to the LASTMA office in Oshodi was still ongoing, a multiple accident occurred along the same axis on Otedola Bridge,” he explained.
The secondary incident involved four articulated trucks loaded with containers. Investigations revealed that the crash resulted from reckless driving, which caused a forceful collision, leaving the vehicles stuck together.
“One adult male was extricated from beneath one of the trucks but sadly lost his life. Three other adult males sustained various degrees of injuries,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.
He further noted that two seriously injured victims received on-site medical attention before being taken to the Accident and Emergency Centre.
The body of the deceased was handed over to officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) for further action.
“All affected trucks were successfully removed to a layby, and the road has been cleared and reopened for vehicular activities,” Oke-Osanyintolu added.
He assured the public that safety measures were implemented to prevent further incidents at the scene.
