Abuja, Nigeria – The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced an ongoing system upgrade and maintenance on its passport application portal for domestic applicants in Nigeria. The initiative, aimed at enhancing service delivery, was disclosed via the agency’s official X (formerly Twitter) page.
72-Hour Portal Downtime for Domestic Applicants
According to the announcement, the upgrade will temporarily render the portal unavailable for passport applications within Nigeria. However, the NIS clarified that this disruption will not affect Nigerians applying for passports from outside the country, as international applications remain fully operational. The maintenance is expected to be completed within 72 hours.
NIS Working to Minimize Impact
In a statement, the NIS assured the public that a dedicated team is working round the clock to restore the portal. “We are working tirelessly to complete the upgrade and restore full service within the next 72 hours,” the statement read.
The agency expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by the disruption and thanked the public for their patience. “We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and deeply appreciate your patience and understanding during this period,” it added.
Commitment to Improved Services
The NIS emphasized its commitment to delivering efficient and reliable services, assuring Nigerians that the portal will be fully operational once the upgrade is complete. “The Nigeria Immigration Service remains committed to serving you efficiently and excellently,” the statement concluded.
For now, applicants within Nigeria are advised to await further updates as the agency works to enhance the system.
