Kano State Governor Allocates N8 Billion for Ramadan Feeding Program

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has announced that the state government has earmarked N8 billion for this year’s Ramadan feeding initiative. This announcement was made during the flag-off ceremony for the distribution of 1,250 cartons of dates, a donation from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, held on Friday at the Coronation Hall in the Government House.

The details of the initiative were shared by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Tofa, on Saturday. Governor Yusuf, represented at the event by Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Farouk Ibrahim, expressed gratitude to Khalil Adamawi, the Consul-General of Saudi Arabia in Kano, for the generous contribution, noting that this marks the fourth occurrence of such support from the Kingdom.

Yusuf emphasized the timely nature of this donation as the state navigates the challenges posed by economic hardship, particularly for the less privileged members of society. He highlighted that Kano has emerged as one of Nigeria’s most peaceful states, which has attracted a growing number of residents, thereby intensifying pressure on the government in terms of health and infrastructure.

“The current Ramadan season arrives during particularly challenging times, with Kano remaining a safe haven in northern Nigeria,” the governor said, acknowledging the significant strain on governmental resources and public services.

During his address, Yusuf appealed to the Saudi Government to consider funding the construction of a psychiatric hospital and the renovation of the Displaced Children Camp in Kano, aimed at enhancing the living conditions for vulnerable groups.

The governor expressed his satisfaction with the longstanding relationship between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the people of Kano, promising to strengthen this partnership for mutual benefit.

Commenting on the occasion, Adamu Kibiya, the Commissioner for Humanitarian and Poverty Alleviation, praised Saudi Arabia for being a cornerstone of global humanitarian efforts and commended their generous support for the residents of Kano.

Consul-General Ahmad Adamawi reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to providing ongoing humanitarian assistance to the Kano State Government. He commended Governor Yusuf for the substantial projects underway in the state, particularly in health, education, and infrastructure.

The event concluded with the distribution of dates to various groups, including associations for people with disabilities and local Islamic clerics.

In a separate message for Ramadan, Governor Yusuf urged the local business community to lower prices of essential goods to help Muslims fully embrace the spiritual and physical aspects of the holy month. He encouraged citizens to support one another, especially the vulnerable, underlining the importance of sharing meals during this sacred time. Yusuf called for community harmony and urged individuals to focus on worship and supplication for the prosperity of Kano State.
