Three individuals were abducted on Tuesday evening as gunmen stormed the motorcycle showroom of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing (IVM) along Owerri Road, Nnewi, in Anambra State.

The attack, which occurred at about 6:45 p.m., was confirmed by the Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga.

In a statement, Ikenga disclosed that a joint security operation had been launched to rescue the victims and apprehend the perpetrators.

Security Forces Battle Rising Insecurity in Anambra

This latest abduction highlights growing security concerns in Anambra State, following a series of attacks by armed groups in recent weeks.

On Sunday, gunmen attacked vigilante operatives along the Amesi-Uga Road in Umuchu, Aguata Local Government Area, leaving one operative injured. According to Ikenga, the operatives were members of the Anambra State Vigilante Group (AVG) in Umuchu Community.

A week earlier, four vigilante operatives were killed in separate attacks in Abatete (Idemili North) and Ukpo (Dunukofia) Local Government Areas.

Ikenga revealed that during the Sunday attack, the joint security team engaged the assailants in a gun duel. Unfortunately, the AVG’s Toyota Frontier van caught fire after its fuel tank was hit by stray bullets.

“One injured vigilante operative was rescued and rushed to the hospital, where he is responding to treatment. Meanwhile, security forces have intensified patrols in the area to apprehend the attackers,” Ikenga added.

The police have called on residents to assist with intelligence as authorities ramp up efforts to combat rising insecurity in the region.
