Lagos State University (LASU) Calls for Justice Following the Tragic Death of Recent Graduate Adedamola Ogunbode
Lagos State University (LASU) has urged for swift justice in the wake of the tragic death of one of its recent graduates, Adedamola Ogunbode, affectionately known as Horlar. The university expressed its deep sorrow through a statement released on Tuesday by Oluwayemisi Thomas-Onashile, Deputy Registrar and Coordinator of the Centre for Information and Public Relations.
The statement confirmed that Ogunbode, a 28-year-old Political Science Education graduate, had been reported missing since January 16. According to information received by university management, he was allegedly murdered by a prophet in the Ojo region of Lagos State, reportedly for ritualistic purposes.
Further investigations conducted by law enforcement agencies revealed that Ogunbode’s mutilated remains were discovered buried on the grounds of a well-known church in the vicinity. The prophet associated with the church has since been apprehended and is currently cooperating with police authorities in the ongoing investigation.
The university community is mourning the loss of Ogunbode, and Thomas-Onashile offered heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. She described his premature demise as a significant loss for the entire university and expressed solidarity with all those grieving his passing.
In the statement, Thomas-Onashile condemned the “senseless act of violence” and emphasized that such brutality and criminal behavior are intolerable in any society. The university called for prompt and thorough action by the appropriate security agencies to ensure that those accountable face justice and that such heinous acts are met with appropriate consequences.
In light of this tragedy, the university has advised its community, particularly its esteemed students, to remain composed while the investigation is conducted. Furthermore, it encouraged vigilance and the reporting of any suspicious activities to the proper authorities.
The safety and security of students is paramount, and LASU remains dedicated to working closely with law enforcement to maintain a secure environment for everyone on campus. Thomas-Onashile reiterated the university’s sympathies to Ogunbode’s family and loved ones, expressing hope that they find strength and solace during this challenging period.
