Fubara expressed disappointment over the incident, stating that he and his team were locked out despite prior notification and the submission of a soft copy of the budget notice. He noted that the Assembly had earlier given a 48-hour ultimatum for the budget’s presentation, even before his administration received the certified true copy of the court ruling.
Port Harcourt, Nigeria – Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has formally requested to re-present the 2025 Appropriation Bill to the State House of Assembly, following recent legal developments and directives from the Supreme Court.
In a letter dated March 13 and addressed to Speaker Martin Amaewhule, Fubara proposed Wednesday, March 19, 2025, as the date for the budget presentation or any other date in March deemed suitable by the lawmakers.
The governor cited compliance with the Supreme Court ruling and a response to the Assembly’s demand as reasons for his renewed request. He also recalled his previous attempt to present the budget on March 12, which was unsuccessful due to restricted access to the Assembly Quarters, where lawmakers were temporarily convening.
Highlighting the importance of constitutional governance, the governor emphasized the need to resolve political differences for the benefit of Rivers State and its people. He urged lawmakers to prioritize state interests over political disputes, reaffirming his commitment to fulfilling his constitutional responsibilities.
Governor Fubara concluded his letter by expressing appreciation to the Speaker and the Assembly for considering his request, reiterating his readiness to present the budget at the proposed time or any alternative date they may choose.
