Port Harcourt, Nigeria – A massive explosion has occurred on the Trans-Niger Pipeline at Bodo, located in Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State, sparking a raging fire. The cause of the blast remains unclear, but authorities are investigating whether it was an accident or an act of sabotage.

The pipeline, a critical conduit for crude oil exports to the Bonny Terminal, reportedly went up in flames late Monday night. The incident has raised concerns, especially as militant groups in the Niger Delta had recently issued threats to target oil infrastructure in response to the ongoing political and financial standoff between the Federal Government and Rivers State.

The Federal Government has been withholding allocations meant for Rivers State due to a deepening political crisis. The state has been embroiled in leadership disputes following the fallout between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. This financial impasse has led to heightened tensions, with Niger Delta militant groups warning of possible attacks on oil installations if the government fails to release the withheld funds.

Security forces and officials from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) are expected to assess the damage and determine whether the explosion was a result of deliberate sabotage or an operational malfunction.
