The project, located in Nsit Atai Local Government Area, represents a critical segment of the ambitious coastal highway initiative and forms part of Section 3A and 3B linking Akwa Ibom and Cross River States.

Speaking through Governor Umo Eno, who represented him at the groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, President Tinubu emphasized the transformative economic impact the road would bring, particularly to coastal communities in the region.

According to the President, road infrastructure is fundamental to national development, facilitating the smooth movement of goods and people while spurring economic activities.

“Roads are not just pathways—they are lifelines of economic expansion. This project is a testament to our commitment to national unity and economic integration, both key pillars of our Renewed Hope Agenda,” he said.

Tinubu added that the project reflects his administration’s resolve to pursue initiatives with long-term value rather than short-term political gain.

Governor Umo Eno, speaking in his personal capacity, expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for routing the highway through Akwa Ibom. He praised Tinubu’s inclusive approach and described him as a unifying leader who deserves to serve two terms to ensure the completion of his developmental vision.

“I speak the minds of Akwa Ibom people when I say we are thankful for this project. It could have bypassed us, but Mr. President chose to include us. We are fully committed to seeing it through,” Eno said.

He further pledged his administration’s cooperation with federal authorities to ensure the timely delivery of the road, which he said would unlock economic potential in previously inaccessible coastal areas.

Quoting a biblical reference, the governor expressed optimism that President Tinubu, having started the project, would also complete it.

Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, also spoke at the event, hailing the President’s leadership and vision. He stated that Tinubu’s government was fostering equity and freedom across the nation, with infrastructural development as a cornerstone.

Umahi commended Governor Eno for his contributions to road development within the state, noting that the coastal highway would intersect with strategic locations such as the Victor Attah International Airport, Qua Refinery, and various state-built roads.

“This is a double blessing for Akwa Ibom. The President had this vision as far back as 27 years ago during his tenure as governor of Lagos. Today, we are witnessing it come to life,” the Minister remarked.

He also announced that following concerns raised by Governors Eno and Bassey Otu of Cross River State, President Tinubu had directed HITECH Construction to mobilise to the Calabar-Itu Road to address its deteriorating state. Umahi assured that the road would be motorable within two months.

The flag-off ceremony marks another step in the federal government’s pledge to deliver major infrastructure projects across Nigeria, with the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway positioned as a key driver of regional connectivity and economic integration.
