Ghana’s Kumasi Mayor Announces Stricter Measures Against Stray Cows

Kumasi, Ghana – Mayor Richard Boadi has delivered a stern message to cattle herders within the city, declaring that beginning May 1, any stray cattle will be seized and slaughtered. The mayor revealed that the meat from these animals will be provided as food for inmates at the Kumasi Central Prison.

During a press conference held in Kumasi on Friday, Mayor Boadi highlighted the rising issue of cattle roaming freely in urban areas, which he believes undermines the prestige of the city. He emphasized the urgent need for action to address this disruption of public life.

“From May 1, any cattle that stray into the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) area will be killed and fed to inmates at the Kumasi Central Prison,” Boadi stated. “This is particularly aimed at areas along the route from the airport to Manhyia Palace, where the sight of cattle feces is unacceptable, especially for visitors coming to Kumasi.”

The mayor called on all cattle herders to take responsibility and ensure their livestock remain outside the city limits, warning that failure to do so will result in severe consequences.
