APC Demands Apology from Social Media Influencer, VeryDarkMan Over Disparaging Remarks about Senate President
The South-South Zonal chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a one-week ultimatum to popular social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, to apologize to Senate President Senator Godswill Akpabio for his recent derogatory comments. The demand arises from an online video in which VeryDarkMan criticized Akpabio’s attendance at the Pope’s funeral, labeling it as “shameful.”
In a video that has garnered significant attention, VeryDarkMan accused Akpabio of lacking the moral authority to represent Nigeria at such a high-profile event while various Nigerian states, including Benue, Plateau, Kwara, Ogun, and Enugu, are grappling with violence and insecurity.
In response, Blessing Agbomhere, the Zonal Organizing Secretary of the South-South APC, condemned VeryDarkMan for what he described as slander disguised as activism. He emphasized that Akpabio was selected by President Bola Tinubu to lead the Nigerian delegation to the Vatican, and therefore, his presence there should not be criticized.
Agbomhere stated, “VeryDarkMan is increasingly known for making baseless allegations and character defamation while masquerading as a champion for the people. The unprovoked attack on one of Nigeria’s highest-ranking officials, who was appointed by the President to represent the nation, raises the question: what is the issue with that?”
He highlighted Akpabio’s reputation as a dedicated Catholic and a family man, suggesting that the President’s decision to send him to such an important event was justified. Agbomhere demanded that VeryDarkMan retract his comments and refrain from undermining the credibility of the Tinubu administration.
Additionally, he urged the public to disregard the influencer’s “ill-informed rants,” asserting that the current administration is diligently addressing the security challenges inherited from prior governments. He noted that after returning from international engagements in France and the UK, President Tinubu met with security leaders, urging them to adopt innovative strategies to combat insecurity.
“The complex security issues facing our nation require time and cannot be overcome quickly,” Agbomhere added. “This administration remains dedicated to fulfilling its promise to restore peace and protect the lives and properties of all Nigerians.”
