NEMA Facilitates Repatriation of Nigerian Returnees in Collaboration with International and Local Partners
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) announced that the recent repatriation of Nigerian nationals was successfully executed with the assistance of the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), under its voluntary humanitarian return initiative. The operation was meticulously coordinated in partnership with several Nigerian government agencies, including the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, Nigeria Immigration Service, and the Department of State Services.
Additional agencies involved in the process comprised Port Health Services and the Nigeria Police Force, ensuring a comprehensive approach to the repatriation exercise. Notably, two of the returnees required immediate medical attention and were promptly transferred to New Ikeja Hospital for treatment.
Following a mandatory profiling and biometric registration process, the returnees were relocated to the Igando Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Resettlement Centre in Lagos. There, they will participate in further reintegration programs aimed at supporting their smooth transition back into society.
NEMA emphasized that this repatriation effort is part of an ongoing initiative to assist vulnerable Nigerians stranded abroad and to facilitate their safe reintegration into their communities.
