The PDP senatorial candidate for Ebonyi South senatorail district, Maria Ude Nwachi has commenced a major grassroots outreach in pursuit of her ambition to represent Ebonyi South Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
The two-day consultation, held on Saturday and Sunday, took her to Afikpo, Edda and Onicha local government areas, where she met with leaders, members and key stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party.
The meetings attracted an impressive turnout of party faithful, community leaders, women, youths and supporters, many of whom came out to welcome her and express their support for her senatorial ambition.
Across the three local government areas, the message from supporters was largely the same: Ebonyi South needs accessible, compassionate and effective representation that understands the daily struggles of its people.
Addressing the gatherings, Ude Nwachi said her aspiration was inspired by the desire to provide people-centred representation and give every community in Ebonyi South a stronger voice at the federal level.
She assured the stakeholders that her campaign would be built around consultation, inclusion and service, stressing that the interests of the people would always come before personal considerations.
“This journey is about our people. It is about giving Ebonyi South the quality of representation it deserves and ensuring that the voices of our communities are heard clearly in the Senate,” she said.
Ude Nwachi also presented key aspects of her manifesto, which focuses on effective representation for the five local government areas of Afikpo, Edda, Ivo, Ohaozara and Onicha.
Her agenda includes youth empowerment and employment opportunities, support for women and small businesses, improved access to education and healthcare, rural infrastructure development, agricultural support and stronger social protection for vulnerable families.
A major feature of her manifesto is the proposed introduction of monthly community town hall meetings. The initiative is intended to give constituents regular access to their senator, enable communities to present their challenges directly and ensure accountability throughout her tenure.
She further promised to pursue federal projects and programmes that would improve livelihoods across Ebonyi South, while sponsoring and supporting legislation that addresses poverty, unemployment, insecurity and the development needs of rural communities.
According to her, representation must go beyond speeches and appearances in Abuja. It must produce measurable improvements in the lives of the people.
The enthusiastic reception recorded in Afikpo, Edda and Onicha reflected the growing momentum behind her campaign. Stakeholders praised her accessibility, longstanding relationship with the grassroots and familiarity with the challenges confronting communities across the district.
Many of the attendees described her aspiration as a people-driven movement and pledged to work for its success within their wards and communities.
Ude Nwachi thanked the PDP stakeholders and residents for the overwhelming show of support, describing the turnout as both humbling and encouraging.
She maintained that her campaign would remain peaceful, issue-based and open to every resident who desires better representation for Ebonyi South.
The outreach is expected to continue across the remaining local government areas as consultations deepen ahead of the 2027 general election.
With the campaign gaining support at the grassroots, Ude Nwachi said the task before her supporters was to remain united, organised and focused on building an Ebonyi South where leadership is accessible and every community has a meaningful place in government.
