Ghanaian YouTuber, Berthold Kobby Winkler Ackon, popularly known as Wode Maya has been honored with a street named after him in Lagos, Nigeria.

The unveiling took place on January 27th, 2025, with Nigerian YouTuber Steven Ndukwu accompanying Wode Maya to the site. Wode Maya expressed his gratitude on social media, stating, “What a great honor to have my name on a STREET in Lagos Nigeria.”

This recognition highlights Wode Maya’s significant influence in promoting positive narratives about Africa through his YouTube channel, which has garnered over 1.33 million subscribers and more than 204 million views.

The street naming has been met with widespread acclaim, with many congratulating Wode Maya for his contributions to African media and culture. His mission to change the negative narrative about Africa has resonated with audiences across the continent and beyond.

The street was named after him by a real estate developer whom He met in Lagos in 2022. The developer explained that a video Maya did on his project attracted unprecedented clients, prompting his firm to begin phase two of the project. Hence the decision to name a street in the estate after him in appreciation.

Berthold Kobby Winkler Ackon, born March 3, 1990, popularly known as Wode Maya, is a Ghanaian YouTube personality, vlogger, digital media influencer, and aeronautical engineer. He adopted the brand name Wode Maya (Wǒ de Mǔqīn) which translates to My Mother in the Chinese language.

His journey began in 2017 when he took a video on a bus in China where seats were empty beside him and other passengers stood due to his skin colour and the video went viral.
