Vice President Kamala Harris Issues Health Report, Presses Trump to Follow Suit

In a bold move ahead of the 2024 presidential election, Vice President Kamala Harris released her medical report on Saturday, claiming she is in “excellent health” and fully fit for the presidency. The release comes as Harris challenges former President Donald Trump to disclose his own medical records, accusing him of a lack of transparency.

Harris, 59, has made health and fitness a key point in the presidential race, especially in light of Trump’s age. The former president, 78, became the oldest major party nominee in U.S. history after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race in July.

In her report, Harris’s physician, Dr. Joshua Simmons, stated that she “remains in excellent health,” with both physical and mental resilience necessary to perform the duties of the presidency. The exam, conducted in April 2024, showed “unremarkable” results, with the only health concerns being seasonal allergies and mild nearsightedness.

Addressing reporters on Saturday before a trip to North Carolina, Harris took aim at Trump’s refusal to release his health records. “It’s obvious his team does not want the American people to know the truth about his fitness for office,” she remarked,

citing concerns over the former president’s transparency and mental acuity.

Trump’s Campaign Pushes Back, Declares Him “In Excellent Health”

Trump’s campaign quickly responded, asserting that the former president is in “perfect and excellent health” to serve as commander-in-chief. Trump’s team also dismissed Harris’s critiques, suggesting that she lacks the stamina and strength to lead the country.

Recent reports from The New York Times have raised concerns about Trump’s mental sharpness, highlighting increasingly long and disjointed speeches, which experts have interpreted as possible signs of cognitive decline. Despite the reports, Trump continues to insist on his fitness for the job.

Former White House Doctor Supports Trump’s Health

Trump’s campaign circulated statements from his former White House physician, Dr. Ronny Jackson, who praised Trump’s recovery following a July assassination attempt. Another doctor, Bruce Aronwald, declared Trump to be in “excellent” health after an exam in September 2023, but provided few details.

While the 2024 election continues to tighten, with polls showing a close race between Trump and Harris, both sides are sharpening their attacks on transparency, mental acuity, and overall fitness for office.

Should Trump win, he would be 82 at the end of a second term—an unprecedented age for a sitting president.
