Water Main Break Floods Montreal Streets, 150,000 Homes Under Distress
A major water main break in Montreal’s Ville-Marie borough on Friday morning has left around 150,000 homes under a boil-water advisory. The rupture sent water gushing several metres into the air, flooding streets and basements.
Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante described the damaged pipe as “enormous,” measuring nearly a metre in width, and warned that repairs could take several hours. The boil-water advisory currently affects three boroughs: Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles, and the City of Montreal-East. Several roads have also been closed due to the flooding.
