16 Suspected Cultists Arrested and 21 Others Declared Wanted By anambra state police

16 suspected Cultists Arrested & 21 Others wanted in Awka

Police in Anambra State have apprehended 16 individuals suspected to be notorious cultists responsible for terrorizing and causing fatalities in the capital city of Awka. Additionally, the police have declared 21 others as wanted in connection with the ongoing violence plaguing the city.

Awka, the state capital, has recently experienced a surge in cult-related violence, resulting in numerous deaths over the past month alone, with at least 34 casualties reported since Easter. Concerned by the escalating situation, Hon. Henry Mbachu, representing Awka South 1 constituency, along with other stakeholders from the area, issued a stern warning last Tuesday, signaling their determination to address the issue.

In response to the alarming situation, the Anambra State Police Command launched a crackdown on the suspected cultists. According to a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, Superintendent of Police Tochukwu Ikenga, the arrested individuals were apprehended through a series of intelligence-led operations aimed at curbing the violence. However, 21 other suspects believed to be involved in the killings are currently on the run and have been declared wanted by the authorities.

The Commissioner of Police, Aderemi Adeoye, has vowed to ensure that those responsible for the recent spate of killings in the capital face the full force of the law. The arrests mark a significant step towards restoring peace and security in Awka, as law enforcement agencies intensify efforts to bring an end to the wave of violence gripping the city.

In light of the ongoing crisis, stakeholders from Awka have announced plans to convene a summit in May to devise lasting solutions to the rampant violence and instability plaguing their community. The summit is expected to bring together various stakeholders, including government officials, community leaders, and law enforcement agencies, to chart a course of action aimed at addressing the root causes of the violence and promoting peace and stability in the area.

As investigations into the cult-related violence continue, the Anambra State Police Command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of residents in Awka and across the state. The arrests and ongoing manhunt for the remaining suspects signal the authorities’ determination to hold accountable those responsible for instigating violence and causing harm to innocent citizens.
