How robbery prank led to the death of a fresh UNIZIK graduate

A heartbreaking incident has befallen the academic community of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) as a student, Miss Ifunanya Miracle, lost her life in a tragic accident on her way to complete her clearance process.

According to Chief Ken Chukwurah, the Chief Safety Officer of UNIZIK, the 25-year-old quantity surveying graduate was involved in an accident on the night of the incident, along with a student. The two were living off-campus and had gone to clear their dues before graduation. The accident occurred at 8:20 pm when a student friend, who was accompanying them in a tricycle, cracked a joke about taking their phones. In a moment of fear, the girls jumped out of the vehicle, and Ifunanya hit her head on the road.

Her colleague sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital, while Ifunanya’s condition was more severe. Despite receiving medical attention at the University Medical Center and later at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, she succumbed to her injuries.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the university community, with colleagues describing Ifunanya as a quiet and reserved individual who was expected to shine brightly in her family’s life.

In a surprising turn of events, the boy involved in the incident has taken full responsibility and has been cooperating with the authorities. His family has even offered to pay for Ifunanya’s funeral expenses, including N61,000 for a family ritual and N500,000 towards the total bill of N950,000.

Ifunanya’s family has expressed gratitude for the boy’s actions and has promised to pay for an ambulance to transport her body from Anambra to Abia State for burial. The family has also agreed to close the case at the State CID once all expenses are settled.

The incident serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of cherishing life and being mindful of our actions. It is a loss that will be deeply felt by all who knew Ifunanya and her family.
