Billionaire Businessman Dr. Adedeji Adeleke Overcomes Government Resistance to Launch Nigeria’s Largest Power Plant
Dr. Adedeji Adeleke, the father of Nigerian superstar Davido, has shared his journey of resilience in building a $2 billion power plant, despite facing significant government obstacles.
Speaking at a conference in Maryland, USA, on October 15, 2024, the businessman and President of Adeleke University revealed how an unnamed government official tried to sabotage the project. The 1250-megawatt power plant, valued at ₦3.418 trillion, is set to be Nigeria’s largest when it becomes operational in January 2025.
Dr. Adeleke, who also serves as CEO of Pacific Holdings Limited, recounted how the official attempted to block the project during the design and permitting stages, claiming it was “impossible.” However, Dr. Adeleke’s unwavering faith in God and determination saw him through.
In a twist, the Ministry of Power later approved the project while the obstructive official was away for medical treatment. Dr. Adeleke credited divine intervention for this outcome.
His Chinese business partner, initially skeptical of Dr. Adeleke’s faith-based approach, has since recognized the role of faith in the project’s success, now advising him to “report any difficulties to God.”
This power plant will generate about 15% of Nigeria’s electricity needs, marking a significant boost to the nation’s energy sector.
