Edo state, Nigeria – Edo State’s former governor and Senator representing Edo North Senatorial District, Adams Oshiomhole, has vehemently denied allegations that the All Progressives Congress (APC) distributed money to buy votes in the just-concluded senatorial election.
Speaking to journalists after casting his vote at Iyamho, Ward 10 Unit 01 in Estako West Local Government Area, Oshiomhole described the allegations as “laughable” and “spurious”. He claimed that the opposition parties were resorting to such tactics to distract from the real issues at stake.
“It’s laughable when I hear people saying that we are sharing money,” Oshiomhole said. “Have you seen anyone receiving money? I think it’s a desperate attempt by the opposition to undermine our campaign.”
Reaction To Edo State Voters Massive Turn Up
The senator attributed the large turnout of voters in his favour to their desire for good governance, rather than any material inducements. He recalled that during his campaign, people came out in large numbers not because he was offering them financial incentives, but because they wanted to witness the progress he had made during his tenure as governor.
“Those who were close to me during my tenure as governor know that I didn’t share money. I worked hard to develop Edo State and created structures that have lasted even after I left office,” Oshiomhole emphasized.
He pointed out that the current administration’s achievements, on the other hand, were short-lived and lacked lasting impact. “All the structures I put in place 12-13 years ago are still there, but those of the present administration have been washed off in just one year,” he said.
The senator’s comments seemed to resonate with many voters who expressed their gratitude for his development projects during his tenure as governor. “Some people have told me that since I left government, they haven’t seen the real presence of government in their communities,” Oshiomhole revealed.
With his denials of vote-buying allegations and emphasis on his commitment to good governance, Oshiomhole appears to be confident of his victory in the senatorial election.
