The Federal Government, through the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), has successfully installed power plants in six federal universities, marking a significant step toward providing reliable electricity to critical sectors of the nation.
This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to improving the energy infrastructure in educational institutions across Nigeria.
During a recent briefing, REA’s Managing Director, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, informed the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, about the agency’s substantial progress in advancing Nigeria’s electrification projects. The universities benefiting from these installations include the University of Abuja, University of Maiduguri, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture in Umudike, Federal University Gashua in Yobe, Federal University of Agriculture in Abeokuta, and the Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna.
These projects represent a crucial leap forward in the REA’s mission to provide dependable power to essential sectors, ensuring that educational institutions have the necessary resources to thrive.
Minister Wale Edun praised the REA for its remarkable achievements, emphasizing the critical role electrification plays in driving Nigeria’s economic growth and development. He highlighted the importance of raising public awareness about the positive impacts of the REA’s work, which he described as foundational to empowering communities and fostering economic progress and stressed that the continued success of these initiatives would lead to sustained economic development and a brighter future for the nation.
“REA’s efforts are not just lighting up homes and institutions; they are illuminating the future of Nigeria by improving livelihoods and creating economic opportunities.
As REA continues to illuminate Nigeria’s future, the country can expect improved livelihoods, increased economic opportunities, and a brighter tomorrow.”
The work of the Rural Electrification Agency holds far-reaching implications for Nigeria’s economic landscape. By providing reliable electricity to previously underserved regions, the REA is unlocking the potential of these communities, enabling them to participate more fully in the national economy and contribute to the country’s overall growth.
